Relai is on a mission to simplify Bitcoin saving and investing. As Europe’s fastest growing Bitcoin-only investment app, we’re rapidly scaling. To support this growth, we’re building a lean and high-performing team ready to drive impact.
We’re looking for a Head of Legal to own Relai’s legal framework across the EU, with a strong focus on MiCA, financial regulation, and strategic legal advisory. This role will be critical in enabling Relai’s growth while ensuring regulatory soundness, legal resilience, and pragmatic decision-making in a fast-moving startup context.
This is a senior, hands-on role with close exposure to leadership, regulators, and key strategic initiatives; working closely with the Head of Compliance.
What You’ll Do
Own and oversee Relai’s legal framework across the EU and Switzerland, with a strong focus on MiCA, CASP requirements, and financial services regulation.
Act as a key legal authority on MiCA and related EU regulations, supporting licensing, regulatory interpretation and implementation, in collaboration with Compliance.
Advise the C-level and Extended Leadership Team on legal risks, regulatory developments, and strategic decisions (product, market expansion, partnerships).
Act as a primary legal point of contact for external counsel and advisors.
Oversee and review key contracts (partners, vendors, employment, strategic agreements), ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
Support corporate governance, internal policies, board-level documentation, and legal structuring as the company scales.
Work closely with Compliance, Product, Engineering, HR, Finance, and Operations to ensure legal considerations are embedded early and pragmatically in decision-making.
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks while enabling speed and innovation in a regulated fintech environment.
What You Bring
Minimum 5-7 years of legal experience in fintech, financial services, or regulated environments within the EU.
Strong understanding of EU financial regulation; hands-on experience with MiCA, CASP licensing, or similar frameworks is essential.
Deep understanding of Bitcoin and willingness to continuously learn about it. A Bitcoin-only mindset and experience in the Bitcoin ecosystem is a plus.
Experience advising digital assets or payment businesses is highly valued.
Law degree from an EU-recognized institution; bar admission is a plus.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment with ambiguity, ownership, and pragmatic problem-solving.
Ability to explain complex legal and regulatory topics clearly and concisely to non-legal stakeholders and support informed decision-making.
An eye for detail and meticulous approach to documentation is expected.
Fluency in English and French is required. German knowledge is a strong plus.
